The idea
By decision No. 1 of 08.02.2012 of Burgas District Court, Company Division, a legal non-profit entity "SOS-RTA" association was registered, with its headquarters and registered office at: 28, Gen. Gurko St., town of Burgas, registered under company file No. 12/2012 at BDC, BULSTAT ID 176243600, represented by the members of the management board.
While being concerned about the large number of deaths and injured in road traffic accidents (RTA) in the country, realizing the need to prevent RTA from happening and understanding the need of providing assistance to victims of RTA, we created "SOS-RTA” association with its main objectives improvement of the road safety of Republic of Bulgaria by organizing and conducting civic initiatives, campaigns and seminars, training of children, students and adults, interaction and cooperation with government and municipal institutions, natural and legal persons and assistance to victims of accidents by providing financial, legal, medical and psychological support.
The role of the institutions in resolving problems of road safety is clearly delineated in the National strategy for improvement of road safety on the roads of Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2011-2020, adopted by Decision No. 946/22.12.2011 of the Council of Ministers. In this respect each institution on central, regional, local, sectoral, etc. level should fulfill its own policy to achieve the objectives of the strategy for reduction of the number of victims of RTA through the implementation of specific plans and action programmes.
Non-governmental organizations, such as "SOS-RTA" association, are the catalyst and main mediator between institutions and the public. They have a crucial role in the building of a stable state-public coalition, which is to generate useful proposals, projects, programmes and initiatives towards improvement of the situation on the roads.
